Reggie Pedro (1972 – 2007)
Reggie Pedro era un grande artista ed illustratore…
Influential illustrator, beloved brother and faithful friend Okerhiere Reggie Pedro passed away on 8th November 2007. Born in Camberwell on 22nd February 1972, he graduated with a first class honours degree in Fine Art from the University of West England, going on to complete an MA in Illustration at the Royal College of Art (1997), where he was awarded both the Painters-Stainers Award of Excellence (1996) and the Parallel Media Prize (1997).
Six months after graduating, he was commissioned to create a series of album cover paintings for Mercury award-winning band Gomez, which culminated in him winning the Best Illustrator within the Music Industry award (2000). His work has been shown widely in London and abroad, including work done in Japan as part of “Graffiti Meets Windows”. Other commissions include work done for the Sunday Times and the Independent.
A vibrant, warm and caring individual, Reggie demonstrated his dedication to community through holding school art workshops and contributing greatly to the life of London’s African organisations. An avid jazz listener, passionate Pan-Africanist and downright hilarious joker, he will be greatly missed and never forgotten by his three surviving siblings, his large extended family and his friends.
